The Objective

The objective for the May Europe Council meeting was to enable CardLinx members to find solutions for using CLO online in e-commerce including on-boarding merchants and merchant IDs.

Meeting Summary

  • Welcome: Silvio Tavares, President and CEO of the CardLinx Association, kicked off the meeting with an update on COVID19 in Europe.
  • Cartes-Bancaires: Ludovic Francesconi and Romain Meggle of Cartes-Bancaires gave their feedback on the last Europe Council Meeting held in March, as well as an overview of the new Cartes-Bancaires initiative.
  • Key European Commerce Trends: Silvio then spoke on moving CLO to online and e-commerce, as well as key European commerce trends including surges in e-commerce spending, bankruptcies accelerating for travel and specialty retail industries, and surges in CLO usage.
  • Key Challenges for E-Commerce CLO: Andre Elias, CTO of Fidel, and Silvio also discussed key challenges for e-commerce CLO including merchant IDs for e-commerce merchants and linking in store merchant IDs to online merchant.

Next Steps

The Europe Council’s next step is to create a directory for European networks and European payment processors for merchants that need to look up or create a new merchant ID.
