Local social commerce takes off

Facebook rolls out Marketplace in its mobile app, adding social commerce to the app’s Swiss army like capabilities. Through Marketplace, Facebook users can find and sell items nearby with the seller clearly visible, a departure from other platforms like Craigslist or eBay.

According to Director of Product Management Mary Ku, a keynote speaker at past CardLinx forums, Marketplace is:

a convenient destination to discover, buy and sell items with people in your community. Marketplace makes it easy to find new things you’ll love, and find a new home for the things you’re ready to part with.

Marketplace merges current trends in digital commerce: geo-location, intuitive user interface  and mobile commerce and has launched in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android.
